A great night if you love lightning tonight. The line of storms moving east with a trough over NSW finally made it to Sydney late this evening. Mid level winds were lacking throughout most of the day however a nice surge from around 5pm helped push the line through the basin and into the nice temp/dew point spreads. The Hills area seemed to receive the majority of lightning with power out in Galston tonight.

A shot below from the Kurrajong Heights lookout followed by a photo taken by my brother Tim, from Hornsby.

The new storm season finally kicked off this afternoon for Sydney. After what has felt like an eternity storms formed behind a clearing rain band early afternoon over the Central Tablelands. Strong winds above the surface helped push the storms into Sydney at warp speed. My Boyce recorded a wind gust of over 90km/h as the storms passed over.

 storm over Homebush

Heres some from Rhodes shopping center carpark roof as the storm approached, 1cm hail and some rotation as a clear slot developed and started spinning the base, right near the olympic stadium.

More in the photo gallery, enjoy!

The camera gear was all packed away for the winter, capturing video of the 2007/08 season had begun, however the big guy upstairs had other plans.

Severe storms developed over the southwest of Sydney during the afternoon and proceeded to move north throughout the afternoon evening. The structure from north of Sydney was nothing short of spectaculur - towering crisp updrafts lit up by a setting autumn sun made for some great photo's.
